It is possible that some of what we consider subject might not be subjective. Newborn infants will look for a longer period of time at symmetrical images than non-symmetrical images, and at human faces more than other objects. Newborn infants, who cannot possibly have been taught to prefer anything, seem to prefer symmetry and human faces. An objective sense of what is beautiful.

Similarly, the face of J. R. "Bob" Dobbs seems to be inherently able to sell anything to anyone.

I exist at all because some number of ancestors over the centuries were kind, and some number of ancestors over the centuries were other than kind. Both, in their full measure.

But don't be tricked! This is no argument for "good" and "evil" being merely opinions instead of facts.

It is a FACT that it is an INHERENT MORAL GOOD to JOIN...

Imagine going to the "Easy Free Bicycle Store." You ask for an easy free bicycle.

The clerk says "okay, first set up a mine to dig up metals, then a foundery to process the metals, then a factory to make the frame, at the same time grow some rubber plants, then process the rubber, then put on the tires... easy! free! bicycle!"

"Well... is there documentation for-"

"IT'S EASY!"

That's been my experience with Urbit for the past two years.

Your hands gripping the handlebars of a bicycle shift back & forth only inches at a time - your feet, they go nowhere but in a circle. And yet this is how many kilometers are traversed.

Just so with J. R. "Bob" Dobbs. You send him a dollar here, a dollar there, it seems no change is happening, but he is acting behind the scenes - making good luck rush toward you & bad luck flee. Keep an eye open for the 'coincidences' that start stacking up when you JOIN...

Christianity taught me to be skeptical of Christians.

Islam taught me to be skeptical of Muslims.

Scientology taught me to be skeptical of Scientologists.

THE CHURCH OF THE SUBGENIUS taught me to be skeptical of all of them, and everyone else too. THE CHURCH OF THE SUBGENIUS taught me to trust in myself and only myself. . . even when I know I'm wrong!

The thing about Plato's Republic, the thing about the idea that we should be led by smart people, is that there's a set of underlying assumptions that might not be true.

It might not be true that smart people all agree with each other, or that smart people are also all virtuous, or that smart people will hold or amend their morals at the right times, or smart people won't see less-smart people merely as a resource...

You must go with the DUMBEST, yet luckiest world overlord.

Just got back from the local drive-in theatre. These guys were parked next to me. Fuckin' brilliant I tell ya. Slack on wheels.

Now I just have to convince the wife to let me convert the pickup to a flatbed.

Do you know what's worse than biting into an apple and finding a worm?

If you said "biting into an apple and finding half a worm," then congratulations. . . on being a WHINY WISENHEIMER who will NEVER BE HAPPY.

I'll tell you what's worse than biting into an apple and finding a worm: being interred in a forced labor camp in the Third World and watching your children starve to death.

Now quit complaining, and enjoy eating around the worm in that delicious apple, ya crybaby.

I've noticed the icon of that weird man with a pipe a few times on the fediverse before. I had no idea what it was about, just found it again on the atari-st ascii table so I looked it up.

I gotta admit, this was the best X-Day ever! It wasn't one million degrees, it wasn't one thousand percent humidity, we didn't have hurricane winds, and not even a single drop of rain!

The Troy Debauch was, in short, the best X-Day ever!

All hail Rev. @senator for hosting the Troy Debauch! So many cults, cults people get really worked up about, exist only as "political parties" or "web pages." The Church of the SubGenius makes mutant meet - for SLACK.
