@onan I used to see that bright zig-zag pattern quite clearly for an hour once a year or so. It was alarming until I learned it is called scintillating scotoma, and sometimes occurs with migraines, which thankfully I do not have.
It's an Ocular Migraine. Doesn't necessarily need to be associated with the headache-type migraine. I have had several of them. The first one freaked me out so much. I haven't had any of these since I started sleep apnea CPAP therapy.
