Reviews: Love and Monsters and J.R. 'Bob' Dobbs and the Church of the SubGenius

A good teens-and-creatures movie, and a deep dive into a glorious fake cult

This is the golden age of literacy. Never before have so many written and read for their own pleasure.

It just turns out that for many people 'their own pleasure' means sermonizing, scolding, tattling, bullying, and cats. Lots of cats. Cats are fine.

My pleasure is reminding the reader to JOIN...

I wonder if you could put puff additive into a 'refill your old ink cartridge' thing. My GF wants a new printer, so I might get to exercise some Forbidden Science. (screwing up the only printer would be why it's forbidden)

They battle but they never die, they hear what I hear, watching through my eyes they don't like what they see.

@onan I had seen homebrew Braille printers made out of old impact printers, but without a ribbon and with a bicycle inner tube pulled over the platen roll so the pins would push into the paper.

Even inexpensive sewing machines have (a) a piston that goes in x / y / z directions (b) a bed that goes forward and backwards and (c) the ability to sew a small pattern.

That's all the hardware needed to emboss braille into a surface. Perhaps poke a bump in the surface, perhaps simply sew a small knot.

Sewing machines cost as much as you want, but can also be had for a few hundred dollars. Braille printers cost thousands to tens of thousands of dollars.

Sewing machine --> braille printer ?

Rev. Ivan @Stang and Dr. @philo Drummond (the two random nobodies hired by J. R. "Bob" Dobbs to run The Church of the SubGenius) in an exclusive live interview with director / producer / writer Sandy K. Boone!

1. good weirdness.
2. makes me miss theater.
3. now i have read: "The Difficulty
of Crossing a Field".

Odd little story that someone would dig it up to produce as a play.
Smells like BullDada!

@onan fan of Glass. Sometime, if you haven’t already, listen to his symphonies. “Heroes” is a good one to start with.

This is the most #Russian thing I have heard of this week. Perhaps even this month.

> Russian cosmonauts trace air leak aboard orbital outpost with tea bag
> The tea bag’s sway in zero gravity conditions towards the air leak was registered by cameras

Difficult/dangerous issue? ✅
Space exploration involved? ✅
Simple, effective solution? ✅ ✅
Tea involved? ✅ ✅

(two check marks for 🍵 because you can bet your бабушка they had celebratory tea afterwards)

NEW! :jrbd: Hour of Slack #1800 - Sound Effects Headphones Special - Rerun of #14 :jrbd:

Stang was laid up from a minor back injury for a whole week, so this is another rerun -- but it is one of the WEIRDEST episodes ever. In 1986 Stang was having fun doing crazy sound effects mixes on a 4-track reel-to-reel deck, partly inspired by Negativlan…
