@justafrog @AnarchoNinaWrites If we continue with business-as-usual, we are definitely well and truly fucked. We might end up with a not, sterile planet. If we were somehow magically able to abruptly shut down all of the oil wells, gas wells and coal mines, virtually all of industry and agriculture would end and the human population of this planet would plummet. In the second scenario, though, at least the rest of the natural world and the living things in would at least have a fightin' chance.
@justafrog @AnarchoNinaWrites Fossil fuels are far from being the only threat to life on earth, but the other threats would certainly shrink without them because energy is the enabler of all economic activity. Economics Prof. Steve Keen, who has said many times that Marx was his inspiration and only lacked knowledge of the importance of energy to all economies, said "Capital with energy is a sculpture; labor without energy is a corpse."
