act.progressamerica.usDr. Oz is dangerous: Tell the Senate to reject his nomination to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Millions could lose health coverage this year as policymakers consider proposals that would force deep cuts to Medicaid. This would shift costs to states and make health expenses rise for many of us. And, Project 2025 calls for making Medicare Advantage the default enrollment option, which would push the U.S. towards a fully privatized Medicare system. This would give away billions of tax dollars to greedy corporations while giving seniors limited options when it comes to choosing providers and accessing care. A 2022 survey found that, regardless of their Medicare plan, older adults reported skipping follow-up appointments and skipping prescription refills due to inability to pay. Now Donald Trump has nominated Dr. Mehmet Oz to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Dr. Oz not only has a long history of peddling dubious weight-loss schemes and other types of quack medicine, he also stands to financially benefit from an expansion of Medicare Advantage due to owning $600,000 worth of stock in two of the largest Medicare Advantage providers (UnitedHealth Group and CVS/Aetna). The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services provide insurance coverage to some of the most vulnerable members of our society. We cannot allow a man whose medical colleagues warn is misleading and dangerous to lead CMS.   Click “Start Writing” to send a message to the Senate urging them to reject the nomination of Dr. Oz as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Elon Musk's social insecurity

The billionaire's reckless claims seem intended to manufacture outrage to justify an end to what he refers to as an “entitlement program.”

UltraVioletSIGN: A snake-oil salesman like Dr. Oz shouldn't be leading the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid ServicesDonald Trump has nominated a celebrity TV doctor who has peddled fake cures for his own financial gain to head the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). By now, we shouldn't be surprised, but it's still appalling! It's bad enough that Dr. Mehmet Oz has a history of using his celebrity status to promote unproven treatments for weight loss and COVID-19. But did you know that Oz also supports privatizing Medicare and Medicaid? He has long been a cheerleader for Medicare Advantage, a federal program that lets seniors buy private health insurance for lower premiums instead of enrolling in traditional Medicare. At face value, the program appears to give seniors more coverage options, but because there is no requirement for these private health plans to cover all patients' needs, many seniors remain underinsured. In fact, a Wall Street Journal exposé last year found that the patients on Medicare Advantage who required the most care were forced to enroll in traditional Medicare after their private insurance refused to cover essential services. The result? Private insurance companies that provide Medicare Advantage plans are raking in billions of taxpayer dollars to diagnose these patients without fully treating them. To make matters worse, taxpayers pay 22% more per person who enrolls in Medicare Advantage compared to traditional Medicare. Oz is a champion of Medicare Advantage. In fact, he often hosted segments on his hit TV show, "The Dr. Oz Show," that were sponsored by MedicareAdvantage.com. And there was certainly an incentive for him to do so. According to his disclosures in 2022 when he ran for office in Pennsylvania (and lost!), Oz owned up to $33.7 million in stock in companies that do business with CMS, including between $280,000 and $600,000 in shares of UnitedHealth Group and between $50,000 and $100,000 in shares of CVS Health. Both companies offer Medicare Advantage plans. If his stock portfolio is even a fraction of what it was in 2022, Oz could make millions of dollars should he take charge of CMS and privatize Medicare and Medicaid. That sounds like a potential conflict of interest to us. Nearly 160 million people get their health-care coverage through Medicare or Medicaid--most of them women and elderly individuals living in poverty. Privatization would put these successful programs in the hands of health insurance fat cats who care more about profits than the well-being of the American people. We can't sit by and let Oz take charge of CMS. Sign the UltraViolet Action petition today to tell the Senate to vote NO on Dr. Oz to lead CMS!

Elon Musk Finally Admits Social Security Is on the Chopping Block

The #DOGE chief has revealed his true goals in a #FoxNews interview.
newrepublic.com/post/192579/el

"Trump has said he won’t touch #SocialSecurity or #Medicare, but Musk’s entitlement math makes it clear that both those programs, as well as #Medicaid, are on the chopping block. Millions of older #Americans—many of them red-state #Republicans—will lose the vital benefits"

…this bill would make severe cuts to #foodassistance, #housing, and #education funding, leaving millions struggling to afford basic necessities. It would also slash funding for #SocialSecurity and #Medicare administration, leading to delays and disruptions in benefits that seniors and people with disabilities depend on. #Environment protections and #climateresilience efforts would be gutted, while billions of taxpayer dollars would be funneled into expanded #deportation

civicshout.comTell Congress: Reject Republicans Cruel Spending BillRepublicans are pushing a cruel and reckless spending bill that would slash funding for critical programs, while handing more power—and a blank check—to Trump and Elon Musk. This disastrous proposal prioritizes massive defense spending and expanded deportation efforts while gutting programs that millions of Americans rely on. This bill would make severe cuts to food assistance, housing programs, and education funding, leaving millions struggling to afford basic necessities. It would also slash funding for Social Security and Medicare administration, leading to delays and disruptions in benefits that seniors and people with disabilities depend on. Environmental protections and climate initiatives would be gutted, while billions of taxpayer dollars would be funneled into expanded deportation programs and Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda. The bill is a direct attack on working families, seniors, and vulnerable communities, all while padding the pockets of corporate interests. Democratic Senator Patty Murray put it plainly: "Instead of turning the keys over to the Trump administration with this bill, Congress should immediately pass a short-term CR to prevent a shutdown and finish work on bipartisan funding bills that invest in families, keep America safe, and ensure our constituents have a say in how federal funding is spent." With a government shutdown looming, Congress should reject this cruel bill and instead pass a clean funding resolution that protects essential services. Tell Congress: Don’t cave to Trump and Musk. Reject this heartless spending bill.
